My first photobook!

Recently I’ve been printing photos and also turning them into books. I didn’t use to think much about printing my images, until I did and it totally changed the way I look at my photos.

There’s just something special about seeing and holding the actual thing. I think the tactile experience is so overlooked in this digital age but it really does add a whole different dimension to the visual memory. And seeing my photo on paper is way better than seeing it on screen - digital screens don’t do justice to photographs, really.

In 2017, I spent 6 weeks in Japan. I travelled around Hokkaido for two weeks and lived in Kyoto for a month - Kyoto was my base and I took day trips to other cities once every 2-3 days. I took photos almost everyday, and had so many photos from the trip! Although some photos made their way to my Instagram, most of them just lived in my HDD (seriously, how often do we actually look through our digital archive of photos?).

Early this year, I decided to compile photos from the trip into a book (as a gift to my better half) and I wondered WHAT TOOK ME SO LONG TO PRINT THEM?! I loved it, he loved it, and the best thing is that the photos are not laying dormant in my HDD anymore, I do pull out the book often to look at it. And because I like it so much, I thought I’d share some images of the inside pages. I’d definitely be printing a lot more books from now!
